Kingsman Star Signs on for Prime Video’s Young Sherlock Series

MOVIE NEWS – Academy Award-winning British actor Colin Firth has joined the cast of Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Young Sherlock series for Prime Video. This exciting project delves into the origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective, focusing on Sherlock Holmes’ early years and career before he became widely known.

The series is set to be a coming-of-age story, taking place in Victorian London. It will transport viewers back to a crucial period in Sherlock’s life when he was 19 and studying at Oxford University. Already dealing with disgrace and raw talent, his situation becomes more complicated when he must use his unfiltered approach to solve a university murder.

Imagine a young Sherlock Holmes entangled in his very first case – a murder mystery that not only threatens his freedom but also uncovers a conspiracy that will forever alter his path as a detective. The series, which will consist of eight episodes, aims to capture the essence of the well-known character but from a fresh perspective.

Colin Firth, familiar with period dramas and acclaimed for films like The King’s Speech and the Kingsman series, will step into the world of Young Sherlock as a mysterious character named Sir Bucephalus Hodge.

Additional Confirmed Cast Members and Producers

While there have been numerous adaptations of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic detective, a prequel series aims to expand the typical on-screen portrayal of the sleuth. The series features an impressive ensemble cast. Hero Fiennes Tiffin will play the titular role of young Sherlock Holmes. Joseph Fiennes and Natascha McElhone will portray Sherlock’s parents, and Zine Tseng will play Princess Gulun Shou’an.

The creative team behind Young Sherlock is also notable. Guy Ritchie, known for his stylish direction in films like Snatch and the Sherlock Holmes movies starring Robert Downey Jr., will direct and serve as an executive producer. Matthew Parkhill, known for his dedication to faithful adaptations, will act as showrunner and executive producer.

The rest of the producing team includes Simon Kelton, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Maxwell, Dhana Gilbert, Colin Wilson, and Marc Resteghini. Their combined experience is expected to make Young Sherlock a high-quality series. With such promising names attached to the project and Colin Firth now involved, Young Sherlock is sure to attract a curious audience upon its release.

Meanwhile, it’s suggested that two other popular versions of the London detective are still very much alive and might return in the future. Ritchie’s own Sherlock Holmes series is considering a third installment for Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, despite it being over a decade since Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows was released. The BBC series Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, is also potentially waiting for schedules to align for another season.
