The First Descendant: the Destiny Icon Mystery is Solved, but Nexon is Still Silent!

It’s as if the South Koreans are too proud to admit that they made a mistake with their sloppiness, but rather remain silent…

We’ve previously reported that many of the icons in the free-to-play The First Descendant looked eerily similar to those in Destiny 2. Many people suspected that Nexon was using a free icon collection site, and that it was using things that the South Korean company was not licensed to use. This is what Nexon is now trying to cover up, but not by honestly admitting what happened:

“We have taken the concerns raised seriously and have decided to make adjustments to ensure that the images that may appear similar clearly reflect the unique identity of our game. The First Descendant was created with deep affection and respect for various looter shooters, and we take feedback regarding other similar games very seriously. With this hotfix, we are trying to reflect the unique identity of The First Descendant. We will continue to improve the game for fans of the genre,” Nexon wrote.

“May appear similar” is a bit of a cheeky comment from Nexon, because if something was almost exactly the same in Destiny 2 and The First Descendant, that’s a bit of an understatement! That’s why they released update 1.0.3 to remove the icons that seem to be very similar from Nexon’s product. Meanwhile, The First Descendant continues to have a mediocre rating on Steam (only 54% of the reviews are positive), but it still remains over 100,000 concurrent players. Of course, this is to be expected two and a half weeks after its release.

So The First Descendant is a looter shooter, or rather, the goal is to collect as many good and rare items as possible from defeated opponents. Meanwhile, it also has MMO elements (so it’s an online game) and even RPG elements. The game was released on July 2nd for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
