Hideki Kamiya Asks Capcom Again to Let Him Work on Sequels! [VIDEO]

Kamiya, who most recently created Wonderful 101 and has since left PlatinumGames, revealed in a chat that he has two games he originally directed that he would like to make sequels to.

In the video embedded below, Kamiya talks with Ikumi Nakamura. Kamiya has created several action games in the past, including Devil May Cry and Bayonetta. He made the latter not at Capcom, but at PlatinumGames, which he founded with his ex-Capcom colleagues. His last Capcom project was Okami, and before that he created Viewtiful Joe after “laying the groundwork” for Dante.

“The story ended in the middle, so I feel bad leaving it as it is. I think creators have an obligation to make sequels that fans want to see. Although I sound all high and mighty, it’s been a while since I moved on from Okami. But I still feel like I haven’t done my duty. So Capcom, please, let’s do it together,” Kamiya said.

Nakamura worked with Kamiya on Okami back in the day, after joining Capcom at the age of 19. The first game he worked on as an artist was this 2006 Japanese art story. In 2019, they said in a video that Okami would be back, but Capcom couldn’t be convinced, but now that Kamiya is independent, maybe they can work together. Nakamura is working on a horror game, Kemuri, in his own studio.

Capcom had a fan survey that didn’t even mention Viewtiful Joe, to which Kamiya jokingly said that only eight people had played it, and it was half over, and he wanted to finish it. Since the game wasn’t on the questionnaire, he wrote, “I’m Hideki Kamiya, let me make the sequel to Viewtiful Joe. His answer didn’t even make it into the results, while people posted things like “Resident Evil was the first game I bought for the PS1” or “I’ve always enjoyed Mega Man since I was a kid”.

He asks Capcom to consider his opinion because he is a director and should be treated the same way…
