Microsoft Breaks the Silence on Yesterday’s Outage; Musk Was in a Talking Mood Again!

TECH NEWS – Elon Musk refused to let yesterday’s gigantic outage go without comment, as it affected everything from financial systems to airports and even the media…

Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, admitted that his company’s partner Crowdstrike caused the big outage. They released a software update that crippled computers around the world. He added that the Redmond tech giant is working with Crowdstrike to fix the problem. Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, Tesla and SpaceX, of course weighed in, and of course he did it in his typical style…

The tech blackout is slowly coming to an end, and it wasn’t just one region that was affected, but several, as Europe and Australia were hit by the Crowdstrike sh_tstrike in addition to the US. Banking services, rail systems, supply chains were not left out of the “good”, which means that excessive centralization has its downside, because if they all rely on Crowdstrike and Microsoft, the whole world could come to a standstill.

So what was Musk’s reaction? First he responded on Twitter that the removal of Crowdstrike would damage the automotive supply chain, then a few minutes later he confirmed that Crowdstrike had been removed from all of their systems, and finally that many of their suppliers and logistics companies still rely on it, so it is not possible to remove Crowdstrike completely without a trace. Microsoft’s international technology role has perhaps become too dominant because of its investment in OpenAI, and offering its Azure cloud computing system to companies working with artificial intelligence has added fuel to the fire.

Microsoft’s share price did not change significantly, but Crowdstrike was down 11% at $294 after an initial gain of 3%. One of Musk’s comments remains to be seen: he said that in this case it was the anti-virus software that was the virus, referring to Crowdstrike.
