Warner Bros. Discovery Gobbles Up the MultiVersus Team!

It was to be expected, as there is a lot of interest in MultiVersus, which is back with a vengeance after a short hiatus, so it was only a matter of time before Player First Games would be acquired directly by Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD).

Warner Bros. Games, the games division of WBD, and Player First Games have announced that they are now under the same roof. Player First Games will continue to be led by co-founders Tony Huynh and Chris White. Huynh, studio head, and White, chief technology officer, will continue to serve as the new co-founders of Warner Bros. Games San Diego, vice president and studio head. So for now, WBD is not reaching out to the team, but that will happen in time (especially if they don’t meet their goals with MultiVersus…).

“We have worked with Player First Games for several years to develop and launch MultiVersus, and we are thrilled to welcome this talented team to Warner Bros. Games. The bright and creative team at Player First Games adds to our extensive development capabilities,” said David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Games, in the press release. “Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel this will be great for MultiVersus overall. We are working to make the MultiVersus experience the best it can be, and having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimal for players,” added Player First Games co-founder and studio head Tony Huynh.

Sure, all well and good for now, but how many times have we seen a studio come under a major publisher and then immediately start making changes (hiring, firing)? If they’re successful now, that’s good because they’re doing everything right under the WBD, but as soon as the problems start piling up, the publisher will let the team go in no time.

MultiVersus is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Steam), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
