Helldivers 2’s Biggest Update Yet – This Is What You Need to Know About Escalation of Freedom! [VIDEO]

Arrowhead Game Studios has been working on new enemies, locations, varied missions and more to spice up Helldivers 2 with Escalation of Freedom.

Soldiers of Super Earth, prepare for the worst! A huge update has been announced for Helldivers 2, which promises players brand-new challenges. Escalation of Freedom, a content pack developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, aims to capture the attention of players with a lot of new things, including brand-new enemies, varied missions and much more!

This isn’t just a patch with a handful of surprises; it’s the “biggest update” in Helldivers 2 history. Escalation of Freedom is the first of many steps the developers are taking to expand the game in “big and meaningful ways.” This leads to a package generally presenting new threats and additional difficulties in defending Super Earth. Best of all, players won’t have to wait long to access this content.

Arrowhead Game Studios plans to release Escalation of Freedom on August 6th.

Unprecedented selection of enemies

The fight for democracy has already demanded serious sacrifices from the brave Helldivers. But the situation will soon get even worse as new opponents appear on the side of both the Terminids and the Automatons. In this regard, the insects will have new, “deadlier” Brood Commanders. They are the Alpha Commanders, who, according to Arrowhead Game Studios, will be much more challenging. In addition, this threat is supplemented by a new Charger variant: a creature called the Spore Charger, which, in addition to generating a cloud of spores on the screen, is constantly moving, so it can appear anytime, anywhere to bring us heart trouble…

In addition, we finally get the Impaler known from the first game. This tentacled creature attacks from underground, countering the usual run-and-gun strategy players use against bugs.

What are the Automatons up to? Basically, this faction continues to improve its weapons and now wants to surprise the Helldivers with new, more effective artillery, which is very difficult to avoid: the Rocket Tank. If we’re far enough away, we’ll be able to see them launch their missiles. And we can only hope that they don’t fall on our heads… It’s also worth mentioning that Arrowhead is also working on larger enemy bases.

New difficulty level

Escalation of Freedom offers more than just multiple enemies. Arrowhead Game Studios wants to challenge players with a new difficulty level. According to the developers, Difficulty 10, or “Super Helldivers”, will contain more enemies and represent a “quality leap” compared to level 9.

In addition, the new threats of Helldivers 2 will also be felt in the environment. In this regard, Arrowhead worked on the eerie version of the swamp environment and the mechanics of the acid storm effect. Specifically, according to the creators’ intention, its function will be to reduce the armour of the enemy and the Helldivers. We can cause much more damage to the enemy, but in return, we also become more vulnerable, the developers say.

The war does not end in Helldivers 2

As expected, the team at Arrowhead Game Studios has some surprises in store for Helldivers 2’s narrative development. Ultimately, changes are taking place in the universe of the sci-fi shooter, and as such, the soldiers of Super Earth must prepare for all kinds of threats. “A second galactic war is unfolding, with Super Earth battling the Automatons and Terminids for control of the Milky Way,” says Nils Hansson Bjerke, head of narrative.
