MOVIE NEWS – A preview of the eagerly awaited series The Day of the Jackal, featuring Eddie Redmayne, Lashana Lynch, and Úrsula Corberó, has been unveiled by Peacock and Sky. The teaser premiered during the NBC and Peacock broadcast of the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony on Friday night. The series will debut on Peacock in the U.S. and Sky in the UK on November 7.
Adapted from Frederick Forsyth’s novel and Universal’s 1973 film, the series follows the story of a masterful and elusive assassin known as the Jackal (Redmayne), who carries out high-stakes hits for substantial rewards.
After his most recent kill, the Jackal finds himself pursued by a determined British intelligence officer (Lynch) in a high-octane chase across Europe, leaving chaos in their wake. This modern retelling situates the narrative within the current turbulent geopolitical landscape, offering a deeper exploration of the complex anti-hero.
The series is penned and overseen by Ronan Bennett, the creator and writer of Top Boy. Brian Kirk, who has directed episodes of Game of Thrones and Luther, will direct. It is produced by Carnival Films, a branch of Universal International Studios, known for its work on Downton Abbey.
Executive producers for Carnival Films include Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant. Redmayne also serves as an executive producer, with Lynch as a co-executive producer. Sam Hoyle is the executive producer for Sky Studios. Additional executive producers include Sue Naegle, with Marianne Buckland as co-executive producer. Christopher Hall is the producer, with Emily Shapland as co-producer. Frederick Forsyth is involved as a consulting producer.
