With Microsoft’s recently updated and modified subscription service, a new rumor has surfaced about a big-name game that is rumored to be part of the offering.
According to an insider, NateDrake, a remake of Mafia, originally released in 2002, Mafia Definitive Edition (made by Hangar 13 in 2020, who developed Mafia III using the same engine), could be coming to Xbox Game Pass. The script has been slightly updated (we don’t even dare ask Daniel Vávra, who has since worked on the second part of Kingdom Come Deliverance, what he thinks about it…), there is new dialog, the backstories have been expanded, there are additional cutscenes, and the rest has been improved. There are also new features and gameplay elements compared to the original, which was released for PC in 2002 and consoles in 2004.
If the rumor is true, it won’t be a title published by Activision or Blizzard. In this case, Microsoft can be selective as they own the publisher and there are rumors of many other titles coming from Microsoft’s new property (Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy…) and Activision’s Blizzard property. ), and Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III already appeared on the system on July 24th (so that rumor was not fiction), as Mafia Definitive Edition was published by 2K, a division of Take-Two, so Microsoft probably pushed a money bag to the publisher currently hoping to make a lot of money with Grand Theft Auto VI.
Hangar 13 announced that they were working on Mafia 4 about two years ago, but no further details have been given, so perhaps the studio will show it to us at The Game Awards in December, as Gamescom might be too early. There are still a lot of question marks surrounding the project, so the best we can do now is wait patiently.
The Mafia Definitive Edition Game Pass release is not official yet!
