The creator of Manor Lords has posted a preview of the new content coming in the next update on the game’s Steam page. This was great news for a large part of the community who are looking forward to returning to the game. However, it also generated some controversy. One user took to social media to express his doubts about the new illustrations that will be coming soon in the game. The user claims to look like an artificial intelligence created it. The accusation, as expected, did not please the creator of the game.

Manor Lords say no to AI

Greg Styczen, founder of Slavic Magic and lead developer of Manor Lords, responded to the allegations by assuring that his game does not use generative artificial intelligence tools. “There is no way for AI to generate this quality yet. No need to insult Beata by assuming it was,” he said via Reddit. Beata Krzywidziska is one of the artists involved in creating various graphics for the game, both at the beginning of Early Access and for upcoming content.

What may have misled some players is the fact that the portraits were created with a hyper-realistic approach.

Artificial intelligence has tried to imitate this many times, with poorer results. However, it must be remembered that if AIs are able to develop a style, it is because it already exists. In this sense, Manor Lords fell victim to users’ growing concern regarding the use of these types of tools. Now that certain companies have been found to be using them, this problem is going to be very common.

The accusation against the Manor Lords came at the worst possible time. Because just a few days ago, a strike was announced due to generative artificial intelligence tools, which affects some of the most important companies in the gaming world. Nevertheless, the community accepted Greg Styczen’s answer. AI usage doesn’t seem to be a contentious issue in the game going forward.
