MOVIE NEWS – A Mutant Year Zero movie is being made, and if everything is true, none other than Dolph Lundgren and Ian McElhinney will be the main characters.

Heroic Signatures is working on a brand new adaptation of the popular video game Mutant Year Zero. Some A-list talent has already signed on to voice the animal leads. While the superhero genre may be on the verge of a comeback, video game adaptations have soared to new heights after the massive success of HBO’s The Last of Us and the Super Mario Bros. 2023 movie, which bodes well for Mutant Year Zero.

The new film is the first animated film from the studio Heroic Signatures. Based on the successful tabletop and video game series of the same name, Mutant Year Zero takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where anthropomorphic animals walk alongside humans, trying to survive in harsh conditions. The official description of the new film reads:

“The Mutant Year Zero story is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where an unlikely team of animal-mutants, led by a witty duck and a gruff boar, set out on a dangerous mission to reclaim an essential generator stolen from their sanctuary, the Ark. Together, the group of scavengers uncover a deeper truth behind the Ark’s divisions, confront the oppressive regime of the Elder, and discover the secrets that could reshape their dystopian existence.”

Details about the new animated film are still emerging, but the project already has two lead voices.

Rocky IV and He-Man star Dolph Lundgren and Game of Thrones and Derry Girls actor Ian McElhinney have also signed on for the new film. Their characters have not been released yet. Fred Malmberg, president of Heroic Signatures and producer of Mutant Year Zero, expressed his excitement about the upcoming project in a statement:

“We cannot wait for fans to get a glimpse at what we have been working on to bring Mutant: Year Zero to life as an animated feature film. Our goal at Heroic is to constantly challenge ourselves to create fresh, expanded experiences across different media based on our adventurous characters and stories for both existing fans and new ones.”

Mutant Year Zero is one of many new video game adaptations already in the works. In addition to HBO’s The Last of Us and the second season of Prime Video’s Fallout, live-action adaptations of The Legend of Zelda, Minecraft, Ghost of Tsushima, and Death Stranding are also in the works. The next video game adaptation to hit theatres will be Eli Roth’s Borderlands, starring Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Cate Blanchett, and Jack Black.
