Bats Stood in the Way of Bridget Jones’s Happiness

MOVIE NEWS – The filming of the new Bridget Jones movie had to be interrupted because experts said the crew’s work could disturb the local bat population’s routine. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, popularly known as Bridget Jones 4, had some scenes filmed outdoors near Keswick.

Keswick, the northernmost town in the picturesque Lake District, is a popular vacation spot, and the romantic surroundings are a nature reserve loved by hikers. The local bats are also protected, and conservationists were concerned that the noisy crew could scare them. Eventually, the filmmakers reached an agreement with the protesters, promising to work only at certain times of the day and stay away from the bats’ nesting areas.

This is the second incident caused by the filming of the new Bridget Jones movie. A few weeks ago, it caused trouble in one of London’s most upscale neighborhoods when the crew asked residents to stay indoors during specified times. Some outraged citizens called it a curfew. Meanwhile, reports have surfaced that Colin Firth has been seen alongside Renée Zellweger on the Lake District set. So, according to previous assumptions, he indeed appears in the fourth installment, despite his character, Mark Darcy, having died in the Helen Fielding novel on which the film is based. Darcy died a noble death: his car hit a mine in the Sudanese civil war while trying to rescue aid workers as a human rights expert. Firth’s appearance was first reported by the Mail on Sunday, speculating that Darcy might appear as a dream memory in Bridget’s mind. The romantic setting certainly suggests this.
