At QuakeCon 2024, id Software confirmed official mod support for DOOM Eternal, which you can try now by entering the public beta.

For many players, DOOM Eternal is one of the best shooters in history. Id Software has proven itself to be a brilliant FPS developer over the decades, but what they’ve achieved with their latest creation is particularly noteworthy. However, with such a great game, there is always room for improvement. A few months ago, it was already reported that DOOM Eternal could get official mod support. But then, we didn’t know precisely when and in what form.

Now, at QuakeCon 2024, it was confirmed that official mod support for DOOM Eternal is coming soon.

In fact, many players can already try out the Steam beta for free, as Wario64 on X reported. Here’s how you can try out this tool, available only to PC users, as we read on Steam’s official website.

“We are so impressed with the DOOM Eternal community mods created without any official tools. They inspired us to release a public beta of idStudio for creators and an opt-in PC mod preview for players to easily browse and play mods,” – wrote the developers. This feature “adds the ability for PC Steam & Microsoft Store community members to opt-in to DOOM Eternal: PC Mod Preview.” There is a lot more helpful information on id Software’s website.

Here’s how you can play DOOM Eternal mods: first, go to your Steam library, right-click on the game in the list and select the “Properties” option. Once you’re there, go to the “Betas” section, where you have to enter the “PC mod preview” option in a drop-down menu. Finally, click close. Next, you may notice that the version of DOOM Eternal has been updated to allow you to “search, download, create, share and play” mods in id Software’s shooter.
