Tron: Ares First Trailer Unveiled—The Digital World Collides With Reality

MOVIE NEWS – The eagerly awaited Tron: Ares has finally given fans their first look with a new trailer revealed during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 2024. This sequel to Tron and Tron: Legacy promises to push the boundaries between the digital world and our reality.

Jeff Bridges, who appeared on stage at D23 2024, spoke about the enduring legacy of the Tron franchise and why now is the perfect time for its return.

“We made the original back in 1982—it’s almost unbelievable to think about. We never imagined it would create such a lasting legacy,” Bridges reflected. “And now, here we are. With technology and AI playing such a central role in our lives today, it’s the ideal moment to bring this world back—and to let it collide with ours. That’s what our film is all about.”

Tron: Ares follows a highly advanced Program named Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a perilous mission. This marks humanity’s first contact with AI beings. During the Disney Entertainment Showcase, Bridges confirmed that filming has wrapped, and he was joined on stage by co-stars Greta Lee, Evan Peters, and Jared Leto, who spoke about their characters. Leto humorously noted that he never signed a non-disclosure agreement and teased his role as the “Ares Master Controller,” a villain determined to permanently merge the digital and real worlds.

After the discussion, the first trailer for Tron: Ares was shown. It opens with a man staring up at the stars, questioning whether he’s truly alone, only to discover that intelligent life has been hidden within AI and technology all along.

“There’s something stirring inside me that I can’t quite understand. I came here searching for something,” Ares says in the trailer. “Something important. Permanence.”

The soundtrack for Tron: Ares is being composed by Nine Inch Nails.

While no specific release date was announced, the long-awaited sequel is expected to be released in 2025, with Joachim Rønning directing.
