James Cameron Could Be Working on a “Secret” Terminator Project?! He Discussed It for the First Time!

MOVIE NEWS – James Cameron has confirmed that he is working on a new “secret” Terminator project…

James Cameron, the legendary filmmaker behind the Terminator franchise, is up to something big – and he’s trying hard to hide it. While talking about the upcoming Terminator Zero animated series in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director also shared that he himself will soon be returning to the franchise with a new “secret project” within the Terminator universe. What exactly does it work for? He won’t reveal it yet.

During the interview, Cameron shared his thoughts on Terminator Zero, Netflix’s new animated series that delves into the future of fighting machines and the origins of Judgment Day. The series will explore the root causes of the nuclear war that looms over the franchise like a deadly shadow. Terminator Zero caught the attention of fans, including Cameron. Although he was not particularly involved in the actual development of the animated series, Cameron has expressed an occasional curiosity about how others would expand on the world he originally created.

“It looks interesting. My relationship to that is very much like The Sarah Connor Chronicles — other people spinning stories in a world I set in motion is interesting to me. What’s their takeaway? What intrigued them about it? Where are they going with it? It looks like they’re going back to the root cause of Judgment Day — the nuclear war — and whether that’s an ultimate timeline. I’d be curious to see what they’ve come up with.”

James Cameron keeps his work a secret

The real highlight of the interview was what Cameron said next. The blockbuster king himself has now casually revealed that he is working on a new project that will see him return to the franchise he created 40 years ago.

“I’m working on my own Terminator stuff right now. It’s got nothing to do with that. Like with The Sarah Connor Chronicles, they occasionally touched on things I had been playing with completely independently. So there’s some curiosity there. It’s not a burning curiosity, but, obviously, it’d be nice to see it succeed.”

Cameron’s revelation comes at a time of renewed interest in the Terminator franchise.

Terminator Zero will premiere on Netflix, and the 40th anniversary 4K re-release of The Terminator will be released in December. The real question is whether there is still demand for the franchise. The first reactions to Terminator Zero suggest that it will, if they do it right.

Cameron has been known to revisit his past work. But his return to the Terminator franchise is especially exciting. Cameron’s original films, The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, are among the best sci-fi films of all time, setting the bar high for what followed. His possible involvement in any new Terminator project, even as a producer, could reboot the franchise.
