A Taiwanese parts manufacturer has already talked about when mass production of Nintendo’s yet-to-be-announced and rumored new console will begin.
The Japanese console maker’s position remains unchanged: Nintendo has said that it will unveil its yet-to-be-named Switch successor by the end of March at the latest, at the end of the current fiscal year. Earlier rumors suggested that the console would be ANNOUNCED by then, but now we hear that this is not so certain, and that Switch 2 (not its official name) will not hit shelves until April at the earliest.
Weltrend Electronics, a Taiwanese company, recently held an investor conference. The company, which makes fabless semiconductors, reported that console orders will surge in the third quarter thanks to new models of PlayStation 5, Xbox and Switch. Yes, all three product lines were mentioned, and not without reason: it’s easy to explain what exactly Weltrend means…
In the case of PlayStation 5, of course, we have to think of the other open secret, the PlayStation 5 Pro (which Sony will probably unveil in September…), Xbox refers to the Xbox Series X with Blu-ray drive, and Switch is the next generation model in this context. According to Weltrend, production of the Switch 2 will also start in September, so it’s not too far away.
Remember the history of the Switch: it was announced in October 2016, immediately went into mass production, and four and a half months was not enough stock for the big N, which has since confirmed that it does not want to repeat this. If they start production in September and, say, the Switch 2 launches in April, they would be producing the devices for half a year, so the company would have more stock available and therefore no stock shortage at launch. By the way, we reported the possible price of the console in yesterday’s news.
But it is still not official.
