The Silent Hill 2 remake seems to be turning skeptics into believers, judging by the overwhelmingly positive response on YouTube. Initially, the game had a mixed reception, but new footage suggests that fans are warming up to the upcoming release.
According to an analysis by VGC, the game is gaining positive traction just seven weeks ahead of its October 8 release. The early teaser trailer for Bloober Team’s remake was met with enthusiasm, garnering 314,000 likes against only 8,200 dislikes—a staggering 97% approval rate.
However, things took a turn in January when the controversial “combat reveal trailer” was released. The trailer polarized fans, leading to a steep drop in approval, with only 59% of viewers giving it a thumbs up.
The backlash was so significant that Piotr Babieno, president of Bloober Team, addressed the concerns directly, stating that the trailer did not “reflect the spirit of the game.” He clarified that Konami was responsible for the marketing and assured fans that the actual gameplay would be received differently.
Despite these reassurances, the game’s momentum continued to dip, especially after a 13-minute gameplay trailer released in May earned just 53% likes.
But now, it appears the tides have shifted. The latest story trailer, released today, has received an overwhelmingly positive response, with 17,932 likes compared to just 668 dislikes, a 96% approval rate that signals a strong recovery. This shift in fan perception could be a positive sign for the game’s success when it finally launches.
