MOVIE NEWS – Fans of the John Wick franchise might want to brace themselves: the anticipated fifth chapter isn’t set to start filming in 2025, or anytime soon for that matter. According to Collider, the future of John Wick: Chapter 5 is uncertain, hinging entirely on when director Chad Stahelski feels ready to dive back into the world of assassins and revenge.

Right now, Stahelski is deeply involved in a slew of other projects, including directing, writing, and producing a reboot of Highlander starring Henry Cavill. In fact, John Wick isn’t even among the 11 movies and series Stahelski currently has on his plate. So, for those eager to find out if the ending of Chapter 4 was a tease, you might have to wait a bit longer—potentially several years.

But it’s not all bad news. John Wick Presents: Ballerina is slated for release next summer, featuring none other than Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, and the late Lance Reddick. This spin-off, set between Chapters 3 & 4, could be the closest thing to a mainline John Wick movie, offering fans a much-needed fix. Additionally, a new television series is in development, set to follow the events of John Wick: Chapter 4. Unlike The Continental, which received mixed reviews, this series might be a crowd-pleaser. So while Chapter 5 is delayed, it’s for a good reason—Stahelski wants to make sure he gets it right.

Stahelski views John Wick as his personal masterpiece, and he’s determined not to rush what could be the final chapter. If Chapter 5 does happen, it will need to cleverly address the ending of Chapter 4. The series has always flirted with the fantastical, so perhaps continuity isn’t as crucial as fans might think. One thing is certain: viewers are eager to see more of Shamier Anderson’s character, The Tracker, who survived the events of Chapter 4. His bond with his loyal canine companion mirrors John Wick’s journey, and Anderson himself has hinted at the significance of this relationship:

“I also think the puppy — who doesn’t love a dog? Knowing that that’s his beacon, his north star, why John Wick is essentially back for revenge, it’s his puppy. And then in this film, I get to have my own puppy, a Belgian Malinois.”

Could The Tracker rise to become the next Baba Yaga? With Wick’s mission seemingly complete after taking down the Marquis, it feels like his story might be over. Yet, given the massive box office success of the sequels, it’s hard to imagine the franchise without him. Plus, with Stahelski at the helm, fans can trust that any new installment will uphold the high standards set by its predecessors. Stay tuned.
