The Monkey King is dethroned: The successes of Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 have been swept away by Chinese studio Game Science.
Black Myth: Wukong has already set a record on Valve’s digital platform as the most wishlisted game. At the time of writing on August 20th at 13:33, the game currently has 1,706,823 players. Over 1.7 million players for a single-player action RPG on launch day. This puts it ahead of Hogwarts Legacy (879,000 players), Elden Ring (953,000 players), and Cyberpunk 2077 (1.054 million players), according to SteamDB data.
This does not put it at the top of the list, as Dota 2 (1,295,114 concurrent players) may have had a bigger bite, but Counter-Strike 2 (1,818,773 concurrent players) is not too far behind. However, it would have to shift into a new gear to match the results of PUBG: Battlegrounds (then PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) in January 2018 (3.26 million players) or Palworld in January this year (2.1 million players for PocketPair). It may yet be able to claim the latter, as at the time of writing it’s only morning in the US (or dawn if you’re in the West Coast time zone) and they may yet push the already fast-moving wagon.

The game was in the news today on another topic, because of its rather interesting review code ruleset.
