MOVIE NEWS – Fede Alvarez has been banned from Reddit’s Alien chat after confirming a Romulus fan theory. (WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Alien: Romulus!)
Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez has been banned from Reddit. After all, he had the chance to comment on the conversation about his own film… While the new entry in the Alien franchise is receiving a lot of praise and box office success, there have been many fan theories about the film. Among other things, there is a lot of talk about the character of Kay (Isabela Merced) and the identity of the father of her child. In this case, the idea of the actual director of Alien: Romulus voicing his own opinion was too much for the thread moderator, who promptly banned him, thinking he was an Alvarez impersonator. However, when the director brought it up on his X/Twitter account, they realized the mistake and reinstated the director’s Reddit privileges to the group. You will surely be able to sleep peacefully after this.
Okay, but what theory did Fede Alvarez confirm?
One important result of the incident was that Alvarez confirmed several fan theories about the father of Kay’s baby. In the original Reddit thread, the author of the post wrote:
“I watched the movie yesterday in IMAX and loved it! Incredible experience, incredible movie. Right before Bjorn’s death, he and Kay share a moment where they touch each other in a very intimate way. Am I the only one who thought this was a sign that Bjorn is the ‘jerk’ who got her pregnant?”
In his brief response, Alvarez simply replied, “Yes, he is. Good catch!” Apparently, such a response was not expected, and this led to someone speculating that ‘fedalvar’ was just another internet troll posing as the director. However, it seems that all’s well that ends well, and now everyone is happy. Plus, we know a little more about the movie…
