PlayStation 5 Pro: More Power, But Is There More Storage? [VIDEO]

According to a new rumor, the yet-to-be-announced half-generation update to the PlayStation 5 will include more storage than ever before.

Moore’s Law Is Dead spoke on the Broken Silicon podcast about seeing a PlayStation 5 Pro development kit (devkit) and confirming that it doesn’t have 1TB (or 825GB), but 2TB of storage. This doesn’t automatically mean that the retail version of the console will have the same size NVMe SSD, we shouldn’t forget what the competition is doing. We have already seen from Microsoft that they will release a 2TB model of the Xbox Series X, and since the PlayStation 5 Pro is considered a premium model, it is likely that Sony will have to do the same.

Moore’s Law Is Dead says that the PlayStation 5 Pro will be an extremely quiet console that won’t be as loud as a vacuum cleaner. The devkit will use the same power connector as the base model, so the console’s power consumption shouldn’t be significantly higher. Since the PlayStation 5 Pro will have more transistors than the current console, the console should be quiet and cool for that reason alone. Of course, this is just a hypothesis, so the opposite could happen in practice if Sony cuts back on the cooling system.

The PlayStation 5 Pro (like the unofficially named Nintendo Switch 2) has become one of the gaming industry’s worst-kept secrets in 2024. It’s likely that this console will run Unreal Engine 5 games better, and we’ve already written what Jeff Grubb, another insider, said: he still thinks a release is due sometime in 2024. Only two questions remain: when will Sony unveil the console? Or: how much will the company finally charge for it, given the huge price increase announced in Japan?

Whatever happens later, the PlayStation 5 Pro is still not official.
