Both Alan Wake II (and Alan Wake Remastered) were published (and funded) by Epic Games Publishing, but it seems the Finns need more than that.
Annapurna has announced a transmedia deal with Remedy Entertainment. The game in question is Control 2: Annapurna and Remedy will co-produce and publish the game (so Remedy is now self-publishing), but we mentioned the term transmedia for a reason: the Alan Wake and Control franchises will be adapted for film, television, and other audiovisual formats. Remedy Entertainment is already hard at work on Control 2, but won’t be releasing any more details anytime soon (not surprising, considering that the first two episodes of Max Payne are being remade).
“We are thrilled to have Annapurna on board! Annapurna’s creative values align perfectly with ours, making them an inspiring partner for the journey ahead. We at Remedy have been working on Control 2 for a while now, it’s looking amazing, and we feel that Annapurna is the perfect partner to work with as the game’s development moves towards production and eventually across the finish line,” said Remedy Entertainment creative director Mikael Kasurinen and Control franchise executive producer Juha Vainio in the press release.
“I am absolutely (yes!) thrilled at the opportunity to expand the story of Alan Wake and our entire Remedy Connected Universe into media beyond games, and to build it all in close collaboration, across games, film, TV and other media, as one unified vision. I am confident that Annapurna is the perfect partner for us to make this dream a reality,” added creative director Sam Lake. Annapurna President of Interactive and New Media Hector Sanchez said, “This deal with Remedy isn’t just about adapting great games – it’s about breaking new ground in how companies can work together. By supporting Remedy’s move into self-publishing, we’re putting our faith in their vision. We know from experience that Remedy is a first-class partner in game development, and we’re excited to share their work with an even wider audience by bringing the Control and Alan Wake universes to film, television, and beyond.”
Alan Wake as a series? It would definitely be a good fit…
