The ports planned for the console generation released in 2013 will be missing something if you buy this year’s Call of Duty episode for this generation.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will have a feature that will be available again after the previous episodes, but it will only be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. So if you’re looking for it on PlayStation 4 vs. Xbox One (or their half-generation updates, PlayStation 4 Pro or Xbox One X), you won’t find it. What is this feature missing from Black Ops 6 for the previous generation of consoles?
It’s Theater Mode. It first appeared in Call of Duty: Black Ops, but that game was released 14 years ago (it was the CoD episode of 2010), so it’s a great idea to bring it back for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Why is it missing on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One? We have no idea, as Treyarch, Activision Blizzard and Microsoft have not given a reason.
And this could be the start of a push to get everyone to switch to the current generation of consoles, because let’s face it: we’re talking about consoles released in 2013, so we’re talking about 11-year-old hardware. Developing for them is becoming a bit of a joke when you’re talking about multiplatform AAA titles. That’s why it might be time for Call of Duty to say goodbye to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and for AAA games in general to leave the previous generation of consoles behind, because developing for them is holding back the other versions under the theory of the lowest common denominator.
In any case, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 pre-order beta is currently underway, with the open beta running from September 6-9. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released on October 25th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It will also be available immediately on Xbox Game Pass.
