Could Ocean’s 14 Be in Preparation?! Clooney and Pitt May Have Already Chosen a Director!

MOVIE NEWS – Brad Pitt and George Clooney have reportedly tapped an Oscar-winning war movie director for Ocean’s 14…

It looks like the cast of the Ocean’s movies is reuniting. Because according to the news, Ocean’s 14 is already under development. In addition, an Oscar-nominated director was selected for it. The Ocean’s franchise began in 1960 with Ocean’s 11, then was reborn in the 21st century as Ocean’s Eleven, with an all-star cast that included George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts and more. Two sequels followed, Ocean’s Twelve in 2004 and Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007. In the summer of 2018, a spin-off with female protagonists, Ocean’s 8, was the last stage so far. After all these years, it looks like Clooney and Pitt are finally ready to return to the franchise.

According to Deadline, All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger is being considered to direct Ocean’s Fourteen. Both George Clooney and Brad Pitt want to reprise their roles as Danny Ocean and Rusty Ryan, respectively. The three previous films in the original Ocean’s trilogy were all directed by Steven Soderbergh. So far, there has been no mention of why Soderbergh is not directing Ocean’s Fourteen. As well as about who else among the characters may return in the sequel. Berger’s next film, Conclave, recently premiered in Telluride alongside Wolfs, the upcoming Jon Watts film starring Clooney and Pitt.

Isn’t Ocean’s 14 the only thing they can be working on?!

This is the second major franchise film Berger has been associated with. After all, a few days ago, there were rumours that he was the most likely to direct the next James Bond film. Fans may be wondering why Soderbergh isn’t returning. Part of the reason may be the departure of some key characters from Ocean’s Eleven over the years. Bernie Mac, who played Frank Catton, died in 2008, just a year after Ocean’s Thirteen. After his death, Soderbergh said that there would be no Ocean’s Fourteen without Bernie Mac. Carl Reiner, who played Saul Bloom in the Ocean’s trilogy, died in 2020 at the age of 98. With two key figures from the original Ocean’s crew gone, the franchise has a void left.

Still, in 2021, Soderbergh seemed more open to the idea of a return.

The Ocean’s franchise could add a lot of actors to its cast, such as bringing back Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Andy Garcia. Or you could bring in Danny Ocean’s sister, Deborah Ocean, played by Sandra Bullock in Ocean’s 8. Other members of Deborah’s team could join in the sequel, such as Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Rhianna, to name a few. It will be interesting to see how Ocean’s Fourteen resolves the controversial revelation at the end of Ocean’s 8 that Danny Ocean is dead. It could easily be that Danny staged his death. Or the new movie takes place before that happens.

It’s also a fact that Warner Bros. is already working on another Ocean’s movie. Barbie co-stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are reuniting to lead a prequel film simply titled Oceans. The film will be directed by Austin Powers franchise director Jay Roach. It will take place in the 1960s, reminiscent of the original Rat Pack movie. Robbie and Gosling will play Danny and Debbie Ocean’s parents. The film was supposed to begin shooting in 2023, but was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. And now it’s probably late because of Robbie’s pregnancy. Apparently, Warner Bros. is developing two different Ocean’s movies at the same time. One is a classic sequel and the other is a reimagined franchise with two of the most beloved stars working today.
