Black Myth: Wukong is rapidly becoming one of the most successful video game releases in recent memory. Within just two weeks, Game Science’s action role-playing game has sold nearly 20 million copies.
Bloomberg confirmed earlier today that the game has sold 18 million copies in its first two weeks, making it one of the fastest-selling games ever. It has even outsold several more popular titles from established studios and franchises released recently. Daniel Wu from Hero Games, the largest external shareholder in Game Science, confirmed that an expansion is already in the works, which aligns with rumors circulating earlier this week. Wu also mentioned that the game, supported by the upcoming expansion, is expected to reach 30 million sales over its lifetime.
Multiplayer Mode Originally Planned for Black Myth: Wukong
The game code reveals that Black Myth: Wukong originally featured a multiplayer mode, which could have further boosted its popularity.
Currently, Black Myth: Wukong is available only on PC and PlayStation 5. Sales are expected to grow even more once the game is launched on Xbox Series X and Series S, though the release date for these versions remains uncertain. Last month, the console launch was delayed indefinitely due to technical issues. However, a recent statement from Microsoft hints that a PlayStation 5 exclusivity agreement may be causing further delays.
