Carmen Sandiego Returns with Netflix’s Help! [VIDEO]

There will also be a new twist to the franchise, as up until now the goal has been to scour the world to find Carmen Sandiego, but this time we’ll be taking control of her.

Gameloft, with the help of HarperCollins Productions and Netflix Games, will create a puzzle adventure game for all relevant platforms, but unsurprisingly, Netflix will be one of the first target platforms beyond the two mobile platforms. In a statement to IGN, Gameloft said that the shift from being the pursuer to being Carmen herself offers a fresh take on gameplay, allowing players to fully immerse themselves in her world of espionage and globe-trotting adventure.

The other character seen at the beginning of the trailer is “Player” from the Netflix series, who is also a reference to the unseen live-action character from the 1994 animated series Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego? Player now serves as Carmen’s sidekick. This means you experience the game entirely from Carmen’s perspective, with Player helping you navigate missions, solve puzzles, and outwit VILE operatives.

It features all the investigative fun of the original core gameplay loop (gathering clues and tracking VILE operatives around the world) combined with all-new, immersive on-the-ground exploration of cities. We have also included a classic mode called “The Acme Files,” which is a heartfelt tribute to the Carmen Sandiego games of the ’80s. Nostalgic players and fans of the Netflix series will also find Easter eggs hidden throughout the game’s locations.

Reykjavik (the capital of Iceland), Accra (the capital of Ghana), Cairo (the capital of Egypt), Jaipur (the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan), Tokyo (the capital of Japan), and Brisbane (the capital of the Australian state of Queensland) will be among the locations. The Carmen Sandiego reboot will first be released on Netflix for iOS and Android in Q1 2025, and will later be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and for non-Netflix subscribers on iOS and Android in the same quarter.
