TECH NEWS – Rockstar’s open-world game doesn’t even have a release date, but it’s already raising questions about the PS5 Pro’s limitations…
Sony’s recently unveiled PlayStation 5 Pro has generated a lot of complaints about its price and has raised doubts about whether the promise of “60 FPS at 4K resolution” can be fulfilled in all games of this generation. Especially for a heavyweight game like GTA VI. We are talking about hardware that has created distrust among gamers. In addition, another ominous news has arrived: according to the experts of Digital Foundry, the new PS5 Pro will have a tough time maintaining this level of quality with Rockstar Games’ open-world game.
The game still doesn’t have a release date and is likely at least a year away from release. However, the hardware presented by Sony Nippon on Tuesday was quite expensive, so they will demand the best in its price range. As a result, many have put aside the list of games supported by the PlayStation 5 Pro update and instead wonder what GTA VI, the 2025 performance benchmark, will be able to do.
The problem with PS5 Pro is that Rockstar releases very “CPU-dependent” games?!
On that note, as mentioned above, Digital Foundry discussed the potential performance of GTA VI on the PS5 Pro. DF Technology Editor Richard Leadbetter explained that GTA series games always feature complex, CPU-intensive simulations. Because of this, they have traditionally been released at 30FPS framerates on contemporary platforms, as higher performance will not be available on desktop consoles until the next generation.
This begs the question: hasn’t the PS5 Pro’s performance improved enough?
Yes, the console’s graphics performance has improved significantly. However, Leadbetter pointed out that the problem is with the CPU, which could make it difficult to achieve the desired 60 FPS in this open-world game. According to Sony’s data, most of the improvements concerned the graphics processor. The device, on the other hand, uses the same CPU as the base model PS5, albeit with a small increase in speed, but nothing radical.
In this case, the increased performance of the PS5 Pro allows games to look better and run smoother in terms of resolution and graphics performance. But since the Grand Theft Auto games are very ‘CPU dependent’, this means that the new console will not resolve frame rate issues in titles like GTA VI.
In addition to technical performance, Rockstar Games wants to create a dynamic and lively world, which is also an additional challenge. GTA VI is expected to feature highly advanced artificial intelligence systems and a massive interactive world, all of which put a significant load on the CPU. Such advanced simulations are often difficult to handle, even on the most powerful consoles. Unfortunately, this can limit the consistent 60 FPS experience.
