A Monumental Milestone: The Character of Batman Has Never Been Recognised Like This!

MOVIE NEWS – Batman gets a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame amid huge fanfare…

Bruce Wayne’s famous Batman alter ego is about to get some serious recognition, as Joker (Jack Nicholson) would say, when it comes to “those wonderful toys.” Yes, his collection is getting a star, but it won’t be at Wayne Manor. Instead, he will be placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (according to a press release). On Thursday, September 26, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Steve Nissen will host the event to present the comic book character with star number 2,790, and DC Comics President, CEO and Publisher Jim Lee will also speak at the event.

Batman will be the first superhero to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The fictional character will be recognized in the “Motion Pictures” category. Lee, whose comic art includes such iconic characters as Marvel’s X-Men, will be joined next week by DC Comics senior vice president and general manager Anne DePies. And as if the glorious star wasn’t enough, the Bat will also be honoured with a Guinness World Record, as he will be the first superhero to grace the Walk of Fame. GWR Official Judge Michael Empric will host the show.

The character of Batman first appeared in the panels of Detective Comics #27 (1939), which celebrates its 85th anniversary this year.

The Dark Knight was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. The birth of Justice came after Superman’s first appearance in Action Comics #1 (1938) the previous summer. But it was another year before the original Robin, the boy wonder, aka Dick Grayson, joined forces with Bruce Wayne’s Bat in the pages of Detective Comics #38 (1940).

Batman next door to Bob Kane and Adam West on the Walk of Fame

In a year that has already seen the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Chris Hemsworth receive a star, it’s all the more fitting that Batman’s induction on the Hollywood Walk of Fame follows filmmaker Tim Burton’s September 3 honour. Of course, Burton directed the return of the hooded crusader to the silver screen in 1989’s Batman and its sequel, Batman Returns (1992), starring Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne.

Batman fans can watch the Dark Knight’s star ceremony on Thursday, September 26 at 11 a.m. local time, courtesy of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The event will be broadcast live from outside the Guinness World Records Museum in Hollywood at 6764 Hollywood Boulevard. Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said Batman will be in good company on the hallowed sidewalk (according to the WOF’s official website), as the new star will be adjacent to the insignia of creator Bob Kane and TV star Adam West. As Martinez put it:

“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to honour our first superhero on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! The one, the only, Batman! Fans from around the world will be thrilled to know that Batman will have his star dedicated next to the stars of television’s Batman, Adam West, and the co-creator of Batman, Bob Kane.”

In addition to the ceremonial presentation of Batman’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, there will be special interactive events to provide an immersive experience for fans who show up to honour one of pop culture’s most recognizable and beloved characters.

Don’t forget to celebrate Batman Day 2024 on September 21! (But no self-judgment – that’s only cool in comics.)
