An Old Star Wars Favorite Reappears on the Radar

For three years, there has been radio silence on one of the most highly anticipated Star Wars games. But its developers have reassured us once again: the Star Wars KOTOR Remake is still alive and kicking. Saber Interactive has received investment from Aleph Capital Partners and Crestview Partners, which will allow them to settle their outstanding debts with the Embracer Group.

In 2021, Star Wars fans were thrilled to learn about a remake of Knights of the Old Republic—a project aimed at reviving the 2003 classic with updated graphics fit for today’s gaming landscape. However, the only information we’ve had since is that the project remains in development, leaving many fans concerned over time. Now, Saber Interactive is reigniting hope by reaffirming that the game is very much alive.

The developers behind Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 shared this news in a statement that brought positive updates for the studio. Private equity firms Aleph Capital Partners and Crestview Partners have invested a significant amount of money into Saber Interactive, giving the company a financial boost for growth and future projects. Saber Interactive took the opportunity to remind everyone about its exciting lineup of upcoming titles, including Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jurassic Park: Survival, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, RoadCraft, Tempest Rising, and many more.

Although the value of the investment remains undisclosed, Aleph Capital Partners and Crestview Partners have stated that this financial backing will be instrumental in securing Saber Interactive’s future: “With this investment, Saber Interactive will repay all debt incurred with the Embracer Group AB in relation to its recent management buyout and accelerate growth initiatives, leveraging the management team’s experience and the core strengths of the 13 studios integrated across Eastern and Western Europe, the U.S., and South Africa.”

This refers to one of the most significant shifts in the company’s history. In the midst of the Embracer Group’s large-scale restructuring, Saber Interactive was purchased by Beacon Interactive for $247 million—a figure less than half of what the Swedish conglomerate had originally paid for the developer back in 2020. However, there were still some outstanding financial issues with the Embracer Group, which will now be resolved with the help of this private equity investment.

The Star Wars KOTOR Remake Is “Alive and Well”

As mentioned earlier, the most recent update on the Star Wars KOTOR Remake merely reiterated that development has not come to a halt. In fact, Saber Interactive directly addressed the status of the project this past April, assuring fans that the game “is alive and well.” As such, we may need to wait a few more months before receiving any new details about the gaming experience.
