Unexpected End for Midwinter Entertainment as Project T Gets Canceled

Just a few hours ago, the company behind the successful Dead by Daylight confirmed some sad news: Project T, its next horror game, has been canceled due to a lukewarm internal reception. At the time, it was unknown whether this decision would end up affecting the teams working on this multiplayer PvE experience, but now the first consequence has been confirmed. Apparently, Behaviour Interactive has pulled the plug on Midwinter Entertainment.

A representative for the Dead by Daylight developer elaborated on the decision in a message to Game Developer: “Yesterday, Behaviour Interactive announced the cancellation of Project T and the closure of the Midwinter studio in Seattle [this detail was not initially shared in the official cancellation announcement]. This decision was made after a diligent risk assessment from a business and product perspective, which yielded unsatisfactory results. This sad news in no way reflects on the talent of the team, who put a lot of energy into Project T.”

“All employees have been offered the opportunity to relocate to our Canadian studios as we strongly believe in their expertise,” Behaviour Interactive’s statement continued. “Should they choose not to accept, they will be presented with a generous severance package. We would like to thank them for all their hard work on Project T and wish them the best for the future.”

Employees say Project T received a 92/100 rating for “fun” and “playability”

Over the past few hours, several former Midwinter Entertainment employees have taken to LinkedIn to confirm the studio’s closure and their current unemployment status. In this regard, Game Developer has also pointed out a now-deleted post from a former employee who doesn’t understand the reasons Behaviour Interactive shares for the game’s cancellation. “One of the crazy things is that in the most recent playtest, we received a score of 92/100 for fun and playability – and it’s being said that players didn’t like the game.”
