TECH NEWS – In Europe, it’s not a good idea to invest in Nvidia’s current flagship graphics card these days.

There’s not much of a shortage of graphics cards using the Ada Lovelace architecture, but for the most powerful card, the RTX 4090, that’s not the case everywhere. 3DCenter reported that several retailers in Germany have put a higher price tag on the card than the MSRP price, while availability is average. In one year, Nvidia’s graphics cards have increased in price by about 25%, taking into account the market situation.

On August 20 last year, the RTX 4090 was between €1590 and €1670, but by November it had jumped to €1950-2100. Later, of course, it became cheaper, but the price was still between 1750 and 1900€. The RTX 4090 is currently asking €2304 on Caseking and €2668 on Mindfactory, so we have to report a huge price increase. This is an incredible amount to charge for the most powerful GeForce graphics card currently available, which will soon be replaced by the RTX 5000 series based on the Blackwell architecture.

According to PCGamesHardware, Nvidia is already preparing for the RTX 5000 series, and we’ve already heard that the RTX 4090 and the slightly less powerful RTX 4090D will soon be rolling off the production lines for the Chinese market. The Chinese restriction was put in place to stifle the use of AI, and as the similarly bad relationship between China and the US continues, it is safe to assume that the RTX 5090D will soon be an existing graphics card.

But it does make you wonder why the most powerful model of the graphics cards that are slowly being replaced is not only getting cheaper, but also more expensive, without any performance gains (except for new drivers, which do not always offer significant gains, although we have seen this with Intel). The way to sell the remaining stock would be to lower the price so that there is more demand for the product…

But unfortunately we are not in that position.
