Kojima Himself Can’t Explain His Xbox-Exclusive Game, but OD Is Still Moving Forward

Kojima’s Xbox-exclusive game is so mysterious that even he can’t explain what it’s about, but development continues. Despite the silence, OD is progressing.

Hideo Kojima’s immediate focus is Death Stranding 2, which gave us a sneak peek at the 2024 Tokyo Game Show last week, but his next project is OD. This Xbox-exclusive game, which we know very little about, was first announced at The Game Awards 2023, and since then, there has been little information. However, Kojima has confirmed that development is still ongoing, despite the game being so unusual that even he struggles to define or explain it.

In a recent interview, Kojima discussed the challenges of developing OD, describing it as “a game, but unlike any other.” According to him, the project represents a new challenge for both himself and the gaming industry. Without providing too many details, Kojima emphasized that the game is risky and experimental, which has only heightened players’ expectations.

In this context, the partnership with Xbox has been key to elevating this revolutionary concept to the next level. Kojima has made it clear that it will offer a unique experience in the world of video games. “It’s hard to explain, but it’s a bit of a risk and a new challenge for me as a video game director,” he told Variety.

Hollywood Stars Join the Project

One of the most intriguing aspects of OD is the involvement of prominent figures from the film and television industry. Just like with Death Stranding, Kojima is once again collaborating with Hollywood’s elite, featuring actors like Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier. Alongside these actors and with the help of horror-comedy director Jordan Peele, Kojima will explore the concept of “psychological fear,” a theme that, under his direction, could lead to a story and gameplay that is as bizarre as it is captivating.

Despite his long-standing relationship with PlayStation, Kojima has entered into a new partnership with Microsoft to create OD, Kojima Productions’ first Xbox-exclusive title and one of its most anticipated projects. While it is unlikely that the game will retain the title OD, the game has sparked numerous rumors, including speculation that actors like Robert Pattinson may be involved. However, official details remain scarce, leaving fans eager for more answers about what Kojima has in store.

Death Stranding 2 to Be Even Stranger

As mentioned, at the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, Hideo Kojima revealed new details about Death Stranding 2, including an extensive trailer that introduced new characters and a unique photo mode that could have implications for the story. Kojima confirmed that the game is slated for a 2025 release, although the exact date will be revealed next year. Despite juggling multiple projects, Kojima emphasized that Death Stranding 2 will be even stranger than its predecessor, and he is confident that the game will offer a completely innovative experience.
