Stellar Blade and NieR: Automata: NieR’s Developers Embrace the Financial Opportunity [VIDEO]

It’s not that surprising that South Korea’s Shift Up and Japan’s PlatinumGames are teaming up… and, let’s face it, neither is the way the latter’s team of NieR: Automata developers are approaching the collaboration!

It was announced during State of Play that Stellar Blade, which has been available on PlayStation 5 since this spring, would be collaborating with NieR: Automata in some way, but there have been few details from Sony Interactive Entertainment, Shift Up, Square Enix or PlatinumGames.NieR’s official Twitter account aptly and humorously stated, “We will gladly say yes to anything for money. This is no coincidence, as NieR: Automata’s protagonist, 2B, has appeared almost everywhere: we’ve seen him fighting Siegfried in Soulcalibur, or even grabbing a machine gun and fighting in Goddess of Victory:Nikkei.Yoko Taro, the creator of the NieR franchise, has always said that games should be fun because that’s how people buy them, and he would sell NieR: Replicant from the back of a truck if he had to.He said that they are open to all kinds of possibilities, so there is a chance that it will appear in more games if there is money to be made.

Stellar Blade director Kim Hyung-Tae has expressed his love for 2B and NieR: The Automaton on several occasions, so he probably got a chance to work with one of his favorite characters, and meanwhile Taro can go home with a bag of money. It seems like a win-win scenario. Maybe it’s not just that Eve, the main character in Stellar Blade, will get 2B costumes (the teaser hinted at this, although the location did resemble the ruins of the amusement park in NieR: Automat, but that was just a gimmick).

Stellar Blade is currently only available for PlayStation 5, but Shift Up plans to bring the game to PC. No further details on the DLC for NieR: Automaton are known at this time, and we’ll have to wait for more details.
