PS5 Gamers Are Really Angry of PlayStation – What’s the Problem with the Latest Update?!

The latest problem for PS5 gamers comes in different forms depending on the region the player is in…

The latest PS5 firmware update is causing a lot of headaches for PlayStation and the gaming community. Following its release in mid-September, users began to notice more crashes and bugs in Final Fantasy XVI, a series of issues that Square Enix later confirmed were due to Sony’s patch. After the situation has been rectified, users have once again raised their voices to criticize the appearance of unwanted and outdated news items in the main menu. Specifically, these items replace the art illustrations previously appearing when selecting each video game.

PS5 replaces art with “news” about old DLCs and known crossovers

The problem takes different forms depending on which region players are in. In Europe, for example, it mostly appeared only for Call of Duty titles. However, the situation is much more problematic and confusing in places like the US, where the latest PS5 firmware update has already been rolled out. Because, as indicated on social networks such as X or Reddit, the elements that appear when selecting games do not always correspond to the experience that players are looking for.

One of the most high-profile examples is related to the Elden Ring, which now displays an advertisement for a mouse pad when the player selects it.

In addition, most users tend to point to the appearance of “news,” such as long-running DLCs or collaborations announced years ago. These now replace the official graphics for each title. As a result, the community quickly pointed out the problem on social media.

“This week, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla [showed an ad] from the AC:V x Destiny 2 crossover… from 2022. They are not even remotely relevant!” – notes user Cyborg14 on Reddit. “I’m currently playing Kena: Bridge of Spirits, and the image has changed for each chapter, but now I’m seeing an ad for a 2-year update that I’ve already installed,” adds cPayne21. “Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020) features an ad for Across the Spider-Verse that came out over a year ago,” comments Cam Will on X. However, Horizon: Zero Dawn brings fresh news about the upcoming LEGO Horizon Adventures, which has already been given a November release date.

Despite complaints from the community, PlayStation has yet to comment on the much-criticized change. Hopefully, based on player feedback, the PS5 system will offer a functional alternative in the coming days (turning off the ‘view news’ option doesn’t really make a difference at the moment). However, it’s clear that users are pretty angry about the console’s latest feature.
