Sony hasn’t exactly introduced a new feature on the PlayStation 5 that can only be described as “definitely annoying”…
The PlayStation 5 interface recently experienced something interesting. Full-screen ads appeared on the console while browsing the games library. The full-screen ads appeared in the form of promotional messages about the games. Users were quick to point out that the new feature seemed to work poorly, albeit intentionally, with outdated and sometimes irrelevant ads appearing on the console’s home screen.
Ask PlayStation, Sony’s official North American support Twitter, responded: “A technical issue with the Official News feature on the PlayStation 5 console has since been resolved. There have been no changes to the way game news is displayed on PlayStation 5.” In other words, Sony didn’t push ads in users’ faces directly, but rather as a result of a glitch. One might wonder how the company managed to do this, since it needs the ads, which can be used elsewhere…

So it turns out that the recent PS5 UI update that let you disable all the advertisements on the dashboard was too good to be true. Now EVERY SINGLE GAME on your homescreen shows you an advertisement in the background with no way to remove them lol https://t.co/Nts6eCq8Eb pic.twitter.com/29p56mYn34

The latest firmware update for the PlayStation 5 was released in September. Among other things, it added the new Welcome Hub and Party Share to the console’s capabilities. The former is a new personalized area on the PlayStation 5 home screen with customizable widgets and backgrounds. With this, Welcome Hub has redesigned the Explore tab, which was previously only available in the US.
Users had complained that the new interface had an ad in the background behind each game, with no way to turn it off. This is really not very pleasant, as it is not a very pleasant sight. If it were a free service, we could understand being cluttered with ads, but to see such prominent ads on a console interface is strange.
At least it’s resolved, so we don’t have to worry about seeing ads all over our console.
