According to a new rumor, the next installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, which Ubisoft recently postponed until February, will feature cooperative gameplay…
Tom Henderson, editor of Insider Gaming, has reported that he believes a co-op mode will be added to the Assassin’s Creed episode set in feudal Japan after the game’s release (so despite the delay, it will be sometime after launch!). The mode is codenamed League and was already in development before the delay. (We just don’t understand why it’s coming later when the game has a few extra months? That should give them enough time to finish the mode for release…)
According to Henderson, it won’t be the only online cooperative multiplayer experience in the franchise, although he didn’t give any more details about League. For example, Assassin’s Creed Invictus, a title directly focused on a multiplayer experience, is in the works and will also be released in 2025. According to another leaker, xJ0nathan, this game will have multiple game modes (team deathmatch, free-for-all, and something speed-based) and will be split into multiple rounds, with a choice of abilities per round. It will be arcade-style (like the bubble shield in Super Smash Bros.), and we’ll be shown from a distance by the camera. The maps will be based on locations from previous Assassin’s Creed games, and only two characters are currently known (Ezio, Cesare Borgia).
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is now confirmed for a February 18 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC and Amazon Luna instead of the previously planned November 15 release. It has been postponed in order to get it in better shape and not to repeat the case of Star Wars Outlaws (that game received its second major update, as we reported earlier today).
According to Henderson, Ubisoft is looking to address several cultural and historical concerns with the new Assassin’s Creed, but Yasuke, the most criticized character in the game so far, will not be removed. The French publisher is also looking to improve architectural issues…
