The new Civilization, known by many as Civ 7, is slowly but surely coming, and now we know what system requirements it will have…
You can read about the requirements on Twitter, and let’s take a look at the three lists:
Minimum system requirements – low graphics preset, 1080p/30 FPS:
- Operating system: Windows 10/11 x64 (no version number is mentioned)
- Processor: Intel Core i3-10100/AMD Ryzen 3 1200
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050/AMD Radeon RX 460/Intel Arc A380
- DirectX: DX12
- Free storage: 20 GB (on SSD!)
Recommended system requirements – medium graphics preset, 1080p/60 FPS:
- Operating system: Windows 10/11 x64 (no version number mentioned)
- Processor: Intel Core i5-10400/AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060/AMD Radeon RX 6600/Intel Arc A750
- DirectX: DX12
- Free storage: 20 GB (on SSD!)
Ultra system requirements – high graphics preset, 4K/60 FPS:
- Operating system: Windows 10/11 x64 (no version number mentioned)
- Processor: Intel Core i7-14700F/AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
- Memory: 32 GB RAM
- Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070/AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT
- DirectX: DX12
- Free storage: 20 GB (on SSD!)
So it’s going to need at least a four-core, eight-thread processor, and the Ultra system requirements are a big jump (again, 32 GB of RAM…) because you’re going to need a pretty hefty processor and video card. Civilization isn’t usually hardware-intensive, so Firaxis probably took a slightly different direction with the new installment. Why would you need a GeForce RTX 4070 for a turn-based game? It’s not exactly a mainstream graphics card (we recently wrote about the RTX 4060’s share of Steam).
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, announced at Summer Game Fest, will be released on PC sometime in 2025. Not much is known about it yet, so we’ll have to wait for more details. The sixth Civ was released for Mac and Linux, but it remains to be seen if this will be repeated with the new episode…
