Warning: A Ridiculous Fake Video Card Is Making Rounds!

TECH NEWS – Just wondering how a decade and a half old architecture could get technology that is just starting to be used in the current generation of consoles?

A video card has popped up on AliExpress that just doesn’t make sense. It’s called… GeForce RTX GT610. PCIe 2.0 connector (nowadays it’s Gen5…), 64-bit memory bus (ridiculously small) and 1 GB of GDDR3 memory (nowadays it’s 8 GB or GDDR7…). The manufacturer is Sejishi. This GPU is bleeding from several wounds.

First of all, the naming is not logical. There used to be GTX and GT graphics cards. GT was the entry level. Then came the RTX cards (there are no RT models). This is a combination of both. Of course, this seems to be a big deception, so many people will quickly jump at the RTX name and buy a cheap card that does not even come close to ray tracing. At most, it’s just a way to get rid of the stock they have left by making a new package and throwing the old product in it…

The graphics card specifications are the same as the GeForce GT 610. It also had 1 GB of GDDR3 VRAM on a 64-bit bus, and it was also on PCIe 2.0 with a single slot size. Only it’s four architectures before Nvidia introduced ray tracing. We first saw the potential of ray tracing on the RTX 2000, Turing graphics cards, while the Sejishi card is certainly on the Fermi architecture. Then came Kepler (GTX 700/Quadro K), Maxwell (GTX 900/Quadro M), and Pascal (GTX 1000/Quadro P), and since then we’ve had Ampere (RTX 3000) and Ada Lovelace (RTX 4000).

Obviously, we don’t recommend buying one of these, because even though it’s cheap, it’s not an official (or even new) product from a well-known manufacturer. A better idea would be to buy RTX M graphics cards from AliExpress, which are a somewhat strange but effective backup solution. These are GPUs where laptop chips are mounted on desktop cards. There are several examples of this, but driver support for them is not official, and you have to install some interesting drivers…

But in the recommended links on AliExpress, there is also RTX GT730 from Sejishi… they just don’t give up.
