Is a Sequel Possible for the Until Dawn Remake?

Until Dawn, originally developed by Supermassive Games but modernized by Ballistic Moon, has an interesting clue at the end of the game.

Before we begin, we should point out that this is a discussion of spoilers. Given that the game was released on Friday for PlayStation 5 and PC, it’s still very much a new release, so we really must point out that we recommend you read on from the next paragraph at your own risk.

So there are two new scenes at the end of Until Dawn. In the first one we see Josh. He was originally played by Rami Malek. In the original game, his story has a rather sad ending, but the ending makes it seem as if Josh has lived through the whole thing. The scene focuses on the character and is narrated by another character that Josh will somehow be able to pay it off.

In the second scene, we see Sam. She is the protagonist of the play and was originally played by Hayden Panettiere. The scene takes place a few years after the story of Until Dawn. Sam is lying in a bed and wakes up to find that she is bleeding from a wound. She is unable to stop the bleeding. A voice then calls her by name and the scene ends. It seems that Panettiere is back to play the character, as she has appeared in interviews for the remake.

For now, let’s ignore the fact that Until Dawn Remake is more of a remake, because even though the game runs on a different engine, it doesn’t seem like a modernization to call it a remake. In any case, these two scenes already suggest that Ballistic Moon, which was founded in 2020, has some ideas for a sequel, which interestingly enough sent some people out of the studio shortly before the game’s release (we reported on this).

Meanwhile, an Until Dawn movie is in the works, so Sony is really thinking transmedia with the franchise, making it one of the IPs the company wants to see more than just a game. We’ll see what comes of it.
