Is the Axe Coming Down? New Report Suggests The Rings of Power Season 3 Might Still Happen

MOVIE NEWS – Despite the long silence surrounding The Rings of Power Season 3, a new report suggests there’s no need to worry: the show isn’t getting canceled. The Amazon-produced Lord of the Rings prequel series has now completed its second season, and while fewer subscribers tuned in compared to the first, the show’s future seems secure.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon is close to confirming Season 3, with an official announcement expected later this month. Fans’ concerns stemmed from the fact that Amazon ordered Season 2 well before the first season even aired, creating uncertainty about the show’s future. Meanwhile, showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have been working on Season 3 for months, and they’re ready to continue.

At a recent event in London, Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke praised The Rings of Power to advertisers, highlighting the cast, including Charlie Vickers, who portrays Sauron. According to The Hollywood Reporter, studios often highlight such projects when they’re planning to continue them.

Salke also revealed that Season 2 had over 55 million profile views, while the first season reached 150 million. On Rotten Tomatoes, critics’ scores for the second season improved to 85%, though audience reception remains mixed.

Viewers’ scores on Rotten Tomatoes jumped from 38% for Season 1 to 58% for Season 2, indicating some improvement. However, viewer drop-off is still a concern for the show’s long-term success.

For now, fans are left waiting for official confirmation about the continuation of The Rings of Power. In the meantime, it’s worth noting how the creators justified bringing back a classic Lord of the Rings character who originally had little relevance to the Second Age storyline.
