TECH NEWS – Sony has reportedly already secretly presented the PlayStation 6 console…
It looks like the PlayStation 6 could be arriving sooner than anyone expected. Sony only announced the turbocharged PlayStation 5 Pro a few weeks ago, but a new report suggests that the company’s top management has already been quietly making moves to introduce the PS6 to various development partners.
Russian journalist Anton Logvinov posted the update on his Telegram account (via ComicBook.com), claiming that Sony has already shown the PlayStation 6 – or a prototype of it – to partners at the Tokyo Game Show.
It’s unclear if Sony was showing off PS6 games or enhanced PlayStation 5 games running on the console. However, the fact that the console was present in any capacity could indicate that the next generation of PlayStation is coming sooner than anyone expected. This would be surprising for several reasons.
The most common leaks and rumours put the PlayStation 6 release date at 2028, which would make sense.
The last few console generations had a lifespan of about 7-8 years. The upcoming PS5 Pro is the clear centrepiece of this generation. In any case, it would be a surprising development if Sony did not provide at least a 3-4 year lead time for the improved version of the current generation. This would show that they do not trust the device to succeed.
Assuming the PlayStation 6 is indeed coming in four years, it’s possible that Sony will be showing off a version of the hardware to developers so they can start preparing. Again, that would make sense.
So, for now, this rumour should be handled with particular care. If the PlayStation 5 still has four years left, I think we can relax. After all, we know that a console really starts to come into its own in the second half of its life.
Have you seen the trailer for Ghost of Yotei? That game is so beautiful that it’s hard to imagine how PS6 could improve it.
