A rumor has surfaced that Kratos could be going back in time with a remastered collection in the future…
Sony has essentially remastered every episode of God of War on the PlayStation 3, with God of War, God of War II, God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta all appearing in some form on the console two years ago. On the PlayStation 4, however, there was only one older installment, a more modern version of God of War III.
Rumor has it that Sony may be revisiting the past, as a God of War Remastered Collection is in the works, so the Greek era could be revisited (the 2018 reboot, as well as God of War: Ragnarok, was a nod to the Norse gods, so this could be considered a different era). The source of the rumor is Discord’s Lunatic Ignus, and the collection will reportedly include God of War: Ascension as well.
According to the leaker, Nixxes, a studio focused on remastering, is working on the collection, and also mentioned when the announcement will be made: in March, nearly six months from now, Sony will only be talking about Kratos’ older stories. (Incredibly, God of War for PS2 was released in North America on March 22, 2005; in Europe, Kratos arrived on July 8…)
The reason why this rumor seems realistic is that Sony has recently started to push remasters again. An excellent example of this is Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, which will be available on October 31st for PlayStation 5 and PC (and we recently wrote that the Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, the full version of the base game, has disappeared from Steam and the Epic Games Store).
All of this is unofficial, of course, so it’s worth considering how much of it could be true, but given Sony’s cash flow these days, maybe the collection could actually happen.
