Sydney Sweeney Is in Another Terrifying Thriller – This Time with Another Talented Actress!

MOVIE NEWS – Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried will star together in this twisted thriller…

Encouraged by the success of this year’s Immaculate, Sydney Sweeney took on a role in another twisted thriller. And this time alongside Amanda Seyfried, who herself stars in the upcoming horror comedy I Don’t Understand You, which debuted at SXSW in March and is slated for release next year.

Both Sweeney and Seyfried have been cast in Paul Feig’s “The Housemaid,” based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 bestselling novel, and two more books in the series, according to Deadline. All of this means that this could potentially be a long-term project for the two stars if the first instalment proves successful. Both will executive produce, with Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, Archive 81) writing the script. A brief synopsis of The Housemaid reads:

“Millie (Sweeney), a struggling woman, is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew, an upscale, wealthy couple. She soon learns that the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own.”

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erin Westerman said she couldn’t imagine anyone other than Sweeney and Seyfried to play Millie and Nina. Also, that the studio is happy to work with Feig again, with whom they have worked before.

“Part of the fun of the book was imagining the cast while we read it, and Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina.”

“They’re both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away.”

Sydney Sweeney is no stranger to the horror genre

Sweeney, who succeeded with the aforementioned Immaculate, seems to be comfortable in his own skin regarding thriller-horror. Although many fans first discovered her thanks to HBO’s hit series Euphoria, she had a long history with the genre even before her breakthrough role in the drama series. All the way back to 2010, when he appeared in John Carpenter’s oft-overlooked film, The Ward. In the 14 years since then, he has appeared in no fewer than seven genre works, including horror comedies (Dead Ant), vampire thrillers (Night Teeth) and supernatural dramas (Nocturne).

She is currently filming Christy Martin’s biographical sports drama about female boxer (yet untitled), and recently appeared in Ron Howard’s survival thriller Eden – which just premiered at TIFF – and alongside Julianne Moore and Domhnall Gleeson in Echo Valley, will also star in an upcoming Apple TV+ thriller.

Needless to say, The Housemaid is just another in a long list of thriller/horror films in which Sweeney is at home. There’s no doubt that playing alongside a veteran like Seyfried only adds to her star power. Having starred in a number of thrillers herself, she might learn a thing or two from the more seasoned actress about what it takes to have a lasting career without becoming a cliché.
