Sunderfolk: Possible Traces of Blizzard Ingredients! [VIDEO]

Mike Morhaime’s new company, formerly of Blizzard, will be the company’s first board-game-inspired game.

It’s a co-op tactical adventure game from Dreamhaven’s in-house studio, Secret Door. A little trick is that the game will require a phone or tablet to control, but it’s not a smartphone title, as Sunderfolk is being made for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and PC, so it will also require a free mobile app.

Sunderfolk is a new turn-based tactical role-playing game. Inspired by sitting around a tabletop RPG table with friends, it was built with the couch co-op experience in mind. Up to four players can play together on an adventure through the magical and dangerous Sunderlands. Each player chooses one of six classes (Arcanist, Bard, Berserker, Pyromancer, Ranger, and Rogue), and together you’ll venture into the Sunderlands and engage in turn-based tactical combat. During combat, there is no set order of player turns, so your strategy can change on the fly to react to the conditions on the battlefield. With new enemies appearing at every turn, it’s up to your party to find the best approach to each mission.

Between missions, players will return to Arden and help improve the village. You’ll unlock and upgrade various local merchants, build relationships with other Sunderfolk to earn rewards, and equip your characters with new skills, weapons, trinkets, and more. As the heroes of Arden, your goal is to protect the town and its Brightshard from the corruption of Shadowstone and defeat threats from the surrounding Sunderlands.

The best adventures are meant to be shared. Up to four players can play together in this new tactical RPG adventure where your phone is your controller. Scan a QR code on your TV/monitor to access the free Sunderfolk mobile app (both iOS and Android), which turns your phone or tablet into your controller, deck of cards, rulebook, inventory, and more. Friends and family can quickly learn to play with all the information they need in the palm of their hand.

Traditional RPG classes have been reimagined in Sunderfolk. Take on the mantle of an Arcanist, Bard, Berserker, Pyromancer, Ranger, or Rogue – each with their own unique play style. Tailor your character’s strengths with their Skill Cards. Upgrade with trinkets and weapons to customize your character’s build from mission to mission. Each player takes a turn and selects one of their Skill Cards to determine their character’s actions. Enemies lurk around every corner, each with their own skills and strategies, challenging your party to change their approach from one mission to the next. The city of Arden is built around a remnant of a magical substance known as Brightstone, but unknown forces from the caverns outside the city have begun to threaten the community’s way of life.

“We have a bunch of dedicated board and tabletop game fanatics on the team at Secret Door – getting together for a game night has been a regular highlight for many of us for years. As developers, we also like to look at what inspires us and think about how to make these types of experiences more accessible so that more people can enjoy them as much as we do. With Sunderfolk, we’re excited to offer players a game that’s easy to pick up and play, yet challenging to master, and we can’t wait to share it with the world,” said Secret Door studio head Chris Sigaty in a press release. “The team at Secret Door, and really all of us at Dreamhaven, are all about bringing players together around fun experiences. Sunderfolk is a beautiful game, it’s full of personality and charm, and it also creates epic moments where everyone engages directly with each other to work out strategies or celebrate victories. There’s nothing quite like it, and we can’t wait to see what players think,” added Dreamhaven CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime.

Sunderfolk is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and PC in 2025.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
