MOVIE NEWS – Star Wars fans were once freaked out by the real face of General Grievous; many people wish they hadn’t seen it…

When the legendary villain of Star Wars history, General Grievous, was revealed, the sight shocked fans. But not necessarily in the sense that the creators had hoped. The character made his debut in the 2003 cartoon series Star Wars: Clone Wars, then appeared in live-action form in Revenge of the Sith. He became one of the franchise’s most famous villains, perhaps mostly thanks to the Clone Wars animated series.

Aside from being a major military strategist and capable of terrible things with lightsabers stolen from defeated Jedi, there’s more to this perpetually coughing cyborg than meets the eye.

It would be easy to assume that General Grievous was this dreaded cyborg all his life, but as detailed in the canon comic series Age of Republic – General Grievous, which first appeared in March 2019, he was once a member of the Kaleesh race, Qymaen jai Sheelal.

“The fearful separatist general strikes! In his hunt to kill Jedi, Grievous stumbles across a power greater than he imagined,” reads the synopsis of Age of Republic – General Grievous #1. “What secrets will the killer cyborg find inside a lost Jedi temple? Can Grievous strike a blow against the very Force itself?”

This not-so-recent 2019 comic issue is significant because we haven’t seen Grievous without his traditional battle mask before.

It was the first time his real face was shown, but fans weren’t exactly happy… “Thanks, I hate it,” replied one Reddit user. “Wait… what’s happening?” asked Mando-19. “Wow. Kaleesh look really weird without their masks,” BeardManJ exclaimed. Although Mudron reacted more dejectedly, adding: “Well, that’s kind of a letdown.”

Fans are still divided by the Kaleesh warrior’s not-so-imposing appearance, but let’s be honest: it would be hard for him to compete with the iconic look he got as Grievous.

If you haven’t already, you should read the comic book series. Maybe re-watching The Clone Wars, in which few characters can be lovingly hated as much as good old General Grievous…
