Although Game Science’s Wukong has been available on PlayStation 5 and PC for two months now, we have yet to see it on Microsoft’s console, but that could soon change.
The game from the Chinese studio was an instant hit and is likely to be one of the best-selling titles of the year. It is already known that the game will receive DLC in early 2025. But so far, the Xbox Series version is nowhere to be found. We’ve heard rumors that this is due to technical reasons (it’s not stable enough due to poor memory management), but the opposite has also emerged. In any case, the game is still coming to Microsoft’s console.
But the North American ratings board, the ESRB, has rated Black Myth: Wukong for the Xbox Series. Interestingly, the European equivalent, PEGI, has not yet rated the game for Redmond’s hardware. This might not lead to a release in the short term, but who knows: at Summer Game Fest, Game Science confirmed that they had to delay the Xbox Series port, and even today it’s not sure if this was because Game Science had a time-limited exclusivity deal with Sony in the background or not. (PlayStation’s presence in China is stronger than Xbox’s…)
Game Science has already sold over 18 million copies of the game. If it is released on more platforms, Black Myth: Wukong will be able to reach a larger audience, so Xbox can make a bigger push, although it should be added that Xbox Series sales are not very close to PlayStation 5. Perhaps if it could get on the Xbox Game Pass service, it could appeal to more gamers and give the game a second boost.
If Sony’s possible deal is for three months, the earliest Black Myth: Wukong could be released for Xbox Series is November 20th. But even that’s not certain, as it might not be ported until 2025.
