Issues with the New Nintendo Switch Firmware Update?

The big N also frequently updates the system software for the Switch, but this time it looks like Nintendo missed something in the firmware development.

The latest version of the Nintendo Switch firmware began rolling out to users in early October. This replaced the previous version 18.1.0 with version 19.0.0, which has been installed on the Switch, which has seen excellent sales, perhaps even catching up with the PlayStation 2’s previous record-breaking results. Despite the jump in the number of versions, the Japanese company didn’t say a word about the new features of the new system software.

On the other hand, many on Reddit are complaining that the Nintendo Switch is draining faster since the new firmware was installed. According to user Yukar1n, the new firmware keeps the Switch warm in standby mode even after hours of not using it. As a result, it feels like the Switch is still actively running with the display off because it’s not properly going into sleep mode. By October 20, dozens of people had experienced something similar, so this isn’t an isolated incident.

At first, not everyone realized why Big N’s hybrid platform wasn’t working as well as it used to. Some people thought they were going crazy when they noticed a drop in battery life after the patch, as the console would drain after a few days of inactivity. As a result, they started turning the Switch off completely every time they used it, thinking the battery was dying. Others have also stopped using standby, but that’s only an option if the console is not plugged in and charging via a cable. Docking the Switch also causes it to go from off to standby.

Others have noticed the warming before (since the 14.0.0 firmware that appeared in early 2022). Nintendo has yet to officially respond to the issue, but something must have happened, and at the very least an official changelog for the 19.0.0 system software should be released.
