Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been in development for an astonishing 16 years, making it one of the longest-developed games in history. Despite facing multiple delays and setbacks, Ubisoft isn’t giving up on the project, and now, there’s finally some good news. The game, developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, has lost its producer, but a new leadership team has been brought in to push the project forward.
Originally unveiled at E3 2017 to widespread excitement, the game has experienced a turbulent development cycle. Tragedies struck, including the death of creative director Emile Morel and the controversial departure of Rayman creator Michel Ancel due to accusations of “toxic leadership.” Now, producer Guillaume Brunier has left the team, but Francis Coldeboeuf, who led development on Far Cry 6, has stepped in to take over the project.
According to Ubisoft, Coldeboeuf has already been involved in the development and is familiar with the project’s intricacies, which positions him well to guide the team towards completion.
Positive Feedback from Ubisoft on Beyond Good and Evil 2’s Progress
Despite the many challenges, there are encouraging signs of progress. According to internal sources, Beyond Good and Evil 2 recently hit a major milestone, receiving positive feedback from Ubisoft’s top management. While details remain scarce, any good news is welcomed after such a long and troubled development.
With a new leadership team in place and continued internal support, fans of the original Beyond Good and Evil can hold onto hope that the long-awaited sequel—developing for even longer than Duke Nukem Forever—will finally see the light of day.
