MOVIE NEWS – The new Wolf Man film promises brutal drama, going beyond standard monster fare

Producer Jason Blum assures audiences that this Wolf Man remake offers much more than a typical monster movie. Having loved the werewolf monster almost as much as Dracula as a child, Blum confesses he never quite outgrew his fascination. Now, his production company Blumhouse is bringing a fresh version of the Wolf Man to the screen. But what makes this adaptation stand out from previous versions?

“We wanted to create a monster who isn’t purely evil,” explains Blum. “In David Cronenberg’s horror classic The Fly, we see a man undergoing a monstrous transformation while his loved ones look on in horror. We don’t just fear the monster; we also feel sympathy for him—that’s empathy. This creature isn’t evil; he’s afflicted by a strange disease.”

In Wolf Man, a family man (Christopher Abbott) is bitten by a wild animal—or so it seems—and as he fights to cure his infection, he experiences increasingly disturbing changes.

Director Leigh Whannell, acclaimed for The Invisible Man, promises the film will echo modern themes, especially post-COVID trauma, a fresh phenomenon that society is still grappling with.
