Dragon Age: The Veilguard Delivers Amazing Console Experience! [VIDEO]

Not only does BioWare’s new game look decent on PC, but it also delivers a pleasing visual experience on current-gen consoles.

Digital Foundry has also analyzed the console version of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and confirmed the resolution and graphical features of BioWare’s new game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The native resolution of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is 1080p, and from there it scales up to 4K (2160p) with a custom version of AMD’s upscaling technology, FSR 2.2, as well as some ray tracing (RT) features: glare and ambient occlusion are RT in quality mode.

Performance mode has a native resolution of 720p and scales up to 1440p, but due to the dynamic resolution it can go down to 504p in some places! AMD’s FSR 2.2 does a pretty good job, and the image quality isn’t affected too much at this low resolution, although if you look closely, you’ll quickly notice that it’s not too pretty. At least the framerate is good, holding steady at 60 fps.

The Xbox Series S does not fare as well. Dragon Age: The Veilguard runs at 648 fps in quality mode on the smaller Xbox, while it’s even lower at 432 fps in performance mode! In the former it tries to maintain 30 FPS, in the latter 60 FPS. In Quality mode there is no motion blur, so the 30 FPS frame rate is not as refined, and in Performance mode the image quality is lower, but Digital Foundry says the result is acceptable on the Xbox Series S. Oh, and one more thing: in Quality mode you don’t get ray traced visuals, so the ray tracing capabilities are missed. A compromise had to be found.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts, is very confident about the game’s success…
