Final Fantasy: Xbox Won’t Be Left Behind in the Future!

A prominent producer of the franchise claims that Square Enix will release the new Final Fantasy titles on PlayStation and Xbox at the same time.

Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) recently stated that he would love to see Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox (Xbox Series only, of course, as Clive and his story didn’t appear on PlayStation 4 alongside PlayStation 5), but now in an interview with 4Gamer he has spoken about Square Enix’s plans to increase the frequency of multiplatform releases, confirming the Japanese publisher’s strategy to do so already this year.

He wants the new installment to be released not only on the PlayStation 5 console, but also the Xbox Series at the same time. Since Final Fantasy XVI is still considered a relatively new title, he would like to see the story appear on Microsoft’s console as well. He spoke about this in an interview with Video Games a few months ago, shortly after Square Enix announced the PC port of Final Fantasy XVI.

“Of course, we have announced the PC version of the game, so in terms of the Xbox version, we want to release it on Xbox, but when it comes to the specifics like when the game would be available and so on, we are not in a position to share anything. But of course I would like to say that it’s not like there’s no hope, and we really want to make it happen, so players shouldn’t get their hopes up,” Yoshida said. This sounds a bit like Sony tying Square Enix’s hands. After all, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth seem to be in a similar situation, right?

Final Fantasy XVI is one of the PlayStation 5 exclusives from Square Enix that failed to meet its sales targets. (The other poorly performing game was Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.) As a result, the Japanese publisher has announced that it is switching to a multiplatform strategy…
